Have you felt your recruitment strategies are becoming stagnant or not attracting the right candidates? Recruiting can be a constant challenge in an ever-changing world.

Recruiting isn’t just about your experience as an HR professional, but also the experience the candidates receive. Sometimes it can feel like walking a tightrope to find the right fit.

From job postings and interviews to the onboarding process, here are some tips for your recruiting strategies:

  1. Forget Degrees. Oftentimes we miss great employees because of a lack of a degree. In fact, more than 70% of candidates apply for jobs they are interested in versus 55% who apply for jobs they are qualified for. You can train for qualifications, but not so much for passion and desire. Focus on those who are interested and have some of the qualifications and determine where you can fill in the gaps.
  2. Cast a Wider Net. There are many individuals other than the newly graduated that are looking for work. From second-chance candidates to veterans and even retirees (who want to do something), broadening your candidate scope can find the needle in the haystack.
  3. Make it “Temporary”: It can be difficult to find long-term candidates, but many are looking for temporary work, project work, or even internships. If you can take some of the needed help and turn it into a temporary or part-time position to find candidates easier, consider this. It could even turn into full-time if it ends up being a good fit.

In addition to finding the right candidate, your process once hired is just as important. Onboarding can make or break your reputation and it’s important that candidates feel valued. This means communicating well, having a solid onboarding plan, and leadership involvement.
