As we continue to see technology drive organizational change, it’s important to remember that technology is a resource and not a replacement.

Employee anxiety continues to rise with the advancement of technology resulting in job insecurity, disengagement, and stress.

So how do you balance AI with humanity in the workplace?

  1. Automate tasks, not people: While AI may help you find candidates, it can’t help you develop them. That needs a human touch and personalized career plans based on their unique skill sets, goals, and abilities.
  2. Make AI fun (and useful): AI anxiety is real and much of that is from either a lack of knowing how to use it or a fear of replacement. Encouraging employees to “play” with AI to become more familiar and understanding of it can turn fears into fresh ideas.
  3. Compliance/Competitiveness: AI can be great at tracking your data and supporting compliance, but it’s not good with the nuances of your individual employees and their needs. The human touch is where you’ll stay competitive by meeting the needs of your employees through dedicated, targeted approaches.
  4. Communication: Collaboration and connection are the foundation of a healthy organization. Using technology can strengthen these if used properly – especially for those who aren’t physically in an office. Consider digital resources that allow for more collaboration and idea-sharing.
  5. Decision-Making: At the end of the day, decision making needs to be from a human. No one is better at deciding what is best for your employees than you, as an HR professional. Use AI to gather data, insights, and information, but at the end of the day, you must be the decision-maker.

As we continue to find the right balance with technology in the workplace, we don’t have to be scared to use it. Finding what’s right for you and your organization can increase productivity, morale, and allow for more employee development time.

If you want to know how to create a better balance (and what resources to use) for your organization, it’s time we scheduled a coffee!
