As AI continues to grow in usage among employees, a new trend is emerging – the productivity seesaw.
While the purpose of AI is to establish processes that will simplify work and create efficiencies, many employees are finding the opposite to be true, causing more work and frustration than flow.
According to a recent study, more than one-third of employees are finding that AI is creating just as much work as it’s supposed to save.
This could be caused by fragmented workflows, time manually removing or updating data, and even the toggle between different applications.
When employees are continually asked to do more, oftentimes the resources used can cause more challenges that support – at least initially.
As an employer, it’s important that when new resources are introduced or required, that effective training is put in place to build confidence and drive successful implementation and application.
How can you set your employees up for success and avoid the toggle tax?
- Purpose: Employees need to understand the purpose of new processes, resources, and what you want them to gain from them. Using AI to just use AI is not a purpose. Leadership can collaborate with employees on the best use for AI in their daily roles and create effective training plans.
- Training: Not everyone is as savvy with new technology, and many will avoid using it if they aren’t confident in how to use it. Creating training sessions to build employee confidence and teach usage can cut down the toggle time and frustrations.
- Review: While the above is a great way to start, you won’t really know how well everything is working for a while. Scheduling a time to review the usage and ask employees how it’s going is a great way to identify frustrations early and pivot if needed.
Employees are already under enough pressure and stressed with their day-to-day tasks. Don’t make life more difficult for them by requiring usage of a new resource without thoroughly communicating and teaching them how best to use it.
